Someone approaches you in a dark quiet road, perhaps as you are entering your home, or as you fumble for your car keys to enter your vehicle.
Immediately fear and adrenaline explode into your veins as you stare at the weapon (knife or pistol, your response will be the same).
The assailant demands something from you, money, jewellery or worse case demands you go to another location with him.
What do you do?
A) Give him everything he asks?
B) Go with him to another location of his choosing?
D) Grab for the weapon or his wrists and disarm him like Jason Bourne?
E) Clear the weapon and attack the assailant?
Only 3 of the above would give you the best chance of surviving this type of self-defence scenario. How do we know? Firstly we do our research on the facts and statistics of such encounters, then we train in exactly the same scenario to test the results in as real as possible confrontations. The answers of what works and what doesn't always surprises our students, until you train for REALITY you will never appreciate what you are capable of and what you are not UNDER STRESS CONDITIONS.
What we will say here is D would give you highest rate of being killed. The very thing that is still taught today in so many so called self-defence classes. Don't do it.

V1 FITNESS Self-Defence Training: Knife and bladed weapon attack.
For many, the thought of facing a knife attack is the most frighting of all self-defence situations. And with good reason, statistics from U.S. police departments show that even highly trained officers are 3 times more likely to die in a knife attack than when they are shot with a hand gun. Even when shot even several times (not vital organs), they still have a higher percentage of survival than being stabbed multiple times due to the bleed out rate of knife wounds. Any form of knife defence training needs to be REALISTIC and with the understanding that you are most likely going to get cut or stabbed during the fight. It's not a game, so never train like it it.
SEPARATING HOLLYWOOD FANTASY FROM REALITY.
At V1 FITNESS we only train for the reality of what real self-defence is. We never pre plan knife attack drills and we never train knife defence with static drills. We teach each student to do everything they can to stab and slash at their training partner with adrenaline fuelled speed and aggression. In doing so, they soon realise that they are going to get stabbed or cut in any REAL knife attack. We then show them simple skills that have been proven to improve your chances of surviving a real knife attack by the men and women who have actually survived such attacks, not just once or even twice, but several times and more in actual combat. What we know from their records is the best percentage of surviving a REAL knife attack is distance and clearing of the weapon. NOTHING ELSE. Any teaching of fighting for the weapon, static drills of grabbing the wrists, blocking, trapping and technical moves for disarming will only increase your chances of being knifed to death.
