If you want to learn self-defence, then realistic full contact sparring is essential.
Choreographed technical moves that look so cool in the classes that claim to be teaching self-defence in Cyprus will be useless to you when suddenly attacked in a violent rage from one or more assailants in the street (yep, that's what happens in the real world). Practising blocks and trapping with a standing still partner as self-defence is a total waste of your time. You will not have the time to think about which block to apply to which attack in a real fight. You need one simple defence (which is actually not a defence but offence) for ALL threats, practised over and over again until it is instinctive and convulsive to give you the best possible chance of destroying any threat.
At V1 FITNESS self-defence we train as close to the reality as possible to replicate what a real assault will be like. We train with simple moves that work and leave out all the fancy dojo moves that do not work. We also train outdoors on concrete floors with hazards and obstacles, because guess what, you will not be bare-feet on cushioned floors when someone attacks you on the street. Not will you be wearing a mouth guard, head protection or body armour. There is no magic in self-defence, you only need to know that action is quicker than reaction and that fear and adrenaline will leave you capable of only very basic gross motor skills, so why train any other way?
